  1. Femal- The use of Pollen Extract to treat Climateric and PMS Disorders
Dr.Kaj Flemming Winther Hansen Dept of Clinical Biochemistry, Fredriksberg Hospital, Copenhagen, Denmark

    Abstract
FEMAL - THE USE OF POLLEN EXTRACT TO TREAT CLIMACTERIC AND PMS DISORDERS: CLINICAL STUDIES
    .
The endocrine changes which lead to the menopause result in various physical symptoms such as hot flushes, vaginal dryness and palpitations, and in symptoms of a more physical nature such as irritability, changes in mood and sleep habits. Replacement of such hormones has gradually become the first choice of treatment However, evidence has been put forward that estrogens worsen the risk of breast cancer and increase the incidence of coronary arterial disease and stroke. These factors, plus the marked resurgence of public interest in, and open-mindedness about, herbal medicines in the last two decades, make it relevant to look for alternative, non-hormonal treatments of menopausal symptoms.
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a common phenomenon among women in their reproductive years, and is associated with more than 200 symptoms. Irritability in its various expressions is considered to be the hallmark symptom for PMS. However, premenstrual dysphoria is also a common finding. It has been reported that as many as 13% of women with menstrual-related problems have symptoms that would make them equivalent to having a serious mental illness.
Several clinical studies in patients with Climacteric and PMS disorders have demonstrated the efficacy and safety of pollen extract drugs. The clinical results with Femal will be reviewed with focus on the results from placebo-controlled studies. Two thirds of patient with Climacteric and PMS disorders can be expected to experience symptomatic relief. Adverse drug reactions are minimal

  2. Pollen Extract used as API in Femal and Sanaxeen. Pollen Technology
Clas Tufvesson. Natumin Pharma AB, Huskvarna, Sweden

    Abstract:
POLLEN EXTRACT USED AS API (ACTIVE PHARMACEUTICAL INGREDIENT) IN FEMAL AND SANAXEEN. POLLEN TECHNOLOGY

A flowering plant produces spores. In angiosperms, the male spores (microspores) or pollen, are formed in organs called anthers. Pollen grains are surrounded by a rather sturdy protective hull, which keeps the pollen cells viable for a long time. However on the pollen grain there are apertures covered by a membrane, which are used during pollen germination. The pollen grain, ready to germinate and grow, is correctly considered the multicellular male gametophyte. Male gametes, or sperm cells, are formed in the pollen grain or the pollen tube, which forms on germination of the pollen grain In fact, pollen contains all compounds necessary to support life: Pollen is very rich in proteins (24%), amino acids, and contains sugar, minerals, vitamins, natural antibiotics, fat and other valuable compounds. Historically, humans used bees to collect pollen. Another, now antiquated, method was to gather pollen from the surface of waterways and lakes. This pollen was dried prior to storage, and also used for medical purposes.
However, with modern technology, pollen can be collected more efficiently without bees, using special mechanical collecting devices. In this way, the pollen used for Sanaxeen and Femal is collected directly from plants using the technology of G. Carlsson in Sweden
Pollen is a curative and strength giving natural product. Traditionally, pollen has been used in the treatment of many different ailments. Overall, pollen is nutrient rich, and has pharmacological properties that impart increased wellbeing.
The pharmacological properties of pollen extract may as a whole lead to symptom reduction. General improvement of physical fitness and vitality, a stronger immune system, and a general strengthening of all bodily functions also improve the ability of a patient with LUTS (Lower urinary tract symptom) PMS (Premenstrual symptom) or menopause symptoms to deal with the condition
